For a while now Taylor and I have been tossing around some ideas to help us refocus, artistically. When you make a creative pursuit into a job, after a while there are times when it can be challenging to fuel yourself creatively. If you fail to broaden your horizons artistically and never create imagery for yourself, your creative spark can wane and at the same time you can get pigeon-holed. How so? Well, when a photographer is commissioned—including wedding photography, maybe especially wedding photography—it’s often hard for folks to separate a photographer’s style from the subject matter. For example, someone may see some work for hire (not personal projects) that we’ve posted but because the personal style of the subjects are not like their own, they can’t really picture how our style would translate to theirs. So for that reason we feel it’s time to stir things up a bit. Read on (below)…
As we finish up work on last season and think about the upcoming one, we’ve been getting ready to try some different photographic formats, such tintype or wet plate photography. But we’ve also decided to share an idea, an opportunity, really, based on an article we recently read that got us thinking…
Since the time we realized we might have a future in photography we’ve often discussed what kinds of things we’d like to shoot. Styles, locations, subjects. We plan to put together some of our own ideas and shoot them, but it’s hard to take time away from our clients to do that. We’ve decided to put some of these ideas out there under the public eye and see what kind of interest we might generate. What follows is our wishlist. If any of these ideas strikes your fancy or you have friends or family that you think might fit into one of these “genres,” by all means please let us know. We are offering a significant discount on our rates if your plans match up with any of our wishlist items. Many of these are wedding-related, but we’re definitely interested in creative portraiture and other ideas as well. Also included in this is a call out for unique and creative elopements, for which we also have special rates for the right fit. As you’ll see, this is not limited to our backyard. We’d love to travel to yours!
